Theodore Stephanides
Space Age

The sense of wonder Man has almost lost
Will stir a dulled humanity again,
When pioneers have paid in blood the cost
And space-explorers, charting hill and plain,
Survey strange planets - while attentive eyes
Follow their tracks from far across the skies.

Synthetic heroes via viewing-screens
Will gaze on Martian rifts on Lunar rills,
Stupendous landscapes and fantastic scenes
Will shake their souls with light-transmitted thrills.
Ah, what sublime adventures will be theirs:
To dare new worlds from fireside-based armchairs!
