Aνδρείοι σεις που πολεμήσατε και πέσατ’ ευκλεώς·
τους πανταχού νικήσαντας μη φοβηθέντες.
Άμωμοι σεις, αν έπταισαν ο Δίαιος κι ο Κριτόλαος.
Όταν θα θέλουν οι Έλληνες να καυχηθούν,
«Τέτοιους βγάζει το έθνος μας» θα λένε
για σας. Έτσι θαυμάσιος θάναι ο έπαινός σας.—

Εγράφη εν Aλεξανδρεία υπό Aχαιού·
έβδομον έτος Πτολεμαίου, Λαθύρου.

Those Who Fought for the Achaian League
Brave men were you who fought and died so nobly,
never afraid of those who were winning every battle.
You were not to blame if Diaios and Kritolaos were at fault.
When Greeks are in a mood to boast, they’ll say
“It is men like those our nation breeds.”
That’s how great their praise will be.

Written by an Achaian in Alexandria
during the seventh year of Ptolemy Lathyros’ reign.

Отважно вы сражались и со славой пали,
не устрашившись тех, кто всюду побеждал.
Вас не в чем упрекнуть, и если есть вина,
Дией и Критолай одни виновны.
Когда же греки родиной гордиться станут,
"Таких она рождает", — будут говорить
о вас. И в этом вам достойная хвала.
Написано ахейцем в Александрии
в седьмой год царствия Латира Птолемея.

You brave, who fought and fell in glory:
who had no fear of those who'd conquered everywhere.
You blameless, even if Diaeus and Critolaus blundered.
Whensoever the Greeks should want to boast,
"Such are the men our race produces," is what they'll say
about you. That's how marvelous the praise for you will be. —
