Theodore Stephanides
Setting Pleiades
The Pleiades that Sappho sang *
still glimmer in the sky,
and sometimes with the setting Moon
I watch them sink and die.
I wonder then if lovers gaze,
as once, upon their light
to augur if they, too, must yearn
alone all through the night.
