The Three Shay Brothers: Funeral sacrifice for Duke Mu, 621 BC
Ever unstill, cross, cross,
yellow wings come to the thorn.
                        Who? with Duke Mu?
                        Shay Yen-Si. Who?
Shay Yen-Si, pick of an hundred men, shook at the
                                                                    grave's edge then.
                        Dark heaven, you take our best men,
                        An hundred; to have him again.
Ever unstill, cross, the yellow birds
come to mulberry boughs
                        Who? with Duke Mu?
                        Shay Chung-Hang. Who?
Shay Chung-Hang who'd block an hundred men
Moaned at the grave's brink then.
                        Dark heaven, you take our best men,
                        An hundred; to have him again.
Ever unstill, cross, cross,
The yellow wings come to the thorn,
                        Who? with Duke Mu?
Shay K'ien-Hu, who could hold an hundred men,
Shook at grave's brink then.
                        Dark heaven, you wipe out our best men.
                        We'd give an hundred
                        to have him again.

Huang Niao
They flit about, the yellow birds,
And rest upon the jujube trees.
Who followed duke Mu [to the grave]?
Ziche Yansi.
And this Yansi,
Was a man above a hundred.
When he came to the grave,
He looked terrified and trembled.
Thou azure Heaven there!
Thou art destroying our good men.
Could he have been redeemed,
We should have given a hundred lives for him.

They flit about, the yellow birds,
And rest upon the mulberry trees.
Who followed duke Mu [to the grave]?
Ziche Zhongheng.
And this Zhongheng,
Was a match for a hundred.
When he came to the grave,
He looked terrified and trembled.
Thou azure Heaven there!
Thou art destroying our good men.
Could he have been redeemed,
We should have given a hundred lives for him.

They flit about, the yellow birds,
And rest upon the thorn trees.
Who followed duke Mu [to the grave]?
Ziche Qianhu.
And this Ziche Qianhu,
Could withstand a hundred men.
When he came to the grave,
He looked terrified and trembled.
Thou azure Heaven there!
Thou art destroying our good men.
Could he have been redeemed,
We should have given a hundred lives for him.

Кто с князем Му-гуном в могилу пойдет?
Цзы-цзюйя Янь-си выполняет обряд.
И этот Янь-си, что исполнит обряд,
Был самым храбрейшим из сотен солдат.
Но только к могиле приблизился он,
Как весь задрожал он и был устрашен.
А ты, о лазурное небо вдали,
Так губишь ты лучших из нашей земли!
Как выкуп за тех, кто живым погребен.
Сто жизней мы отдали б, если б могли.

Кружат, собираясь на тут под курган.
Кто с князем Му-гуном в могилу пойдет?
Из рода Цзы-цзюйя могучий Чжун-хан.
О, этот из рода Цзы-цзюйя Чжун-хан!
Он сотню солдат отражал, великан!
Но только к могиле приблизился он,
Как весь задрожал он и был устрашен.
А ты, о лазурное небо вдали,
Так губишь ты лучших из нашей земли!
Как выкуп за тех, кто живым погребен,
Сто жизней мы отдали б, если б могли.

Там иволги, вижу, летают кругом,
Садясь меж колючих терновых кустов.
Кто с князем Му-гуном в могилу пойдет?
Чжэнь-ху с ним в могильный уляжется ров.
И этот Чжэнь-ху, что разделит с ним ров,
Был с сотнею воинов биться готов!
Но только к могиле приблизился он,
Как весь задрожал он и был устрашен.
А ты, о лазурное небо вдали,
Так губишь ты лучших из нашей земли!
Как выкуп за тех, кто живым погребен,
Сто жизней мы отдали б, если б могли!
