Thick, all in mass
bring drrums, bring drums
bring leather drums and play
to T'ang, to T'ang
source of us all, in fane
again, again, pray, pray;
T'ang's heir, a prayer
that puts a point to thought.

With thud of the deep drum,
flutes clear, doubling over all,
concord evens it all, built on
the stone's tone under it all.
T'ang's might is terrible
with a sound as clear and sane
as wind over grain.
Steady drum going on,
great dance elaborate,
here be guests of state
to us all one delight.

From of old is this rite
former time's initiate,
calm the flow
early and late
from sun and moon concentrate
in the heart of every man
since this rite began.

Attend, attend, bale-fire and harvest home,
T'ang's heir at the turn of the moon.

Sacrificial Odes Of Shang
How admirable! how complete!
Here are set our hand-drums and drums.
The drums resound harmonious and loud,
To delight our meritorious ancestor.
The descendant of Tang invites him with this music,
That he may soothe us with the realization of our thoughts.
Deep is the sound of the hand-drums and drums;
Shrilly sound the flutes;
All harmonious and blending together,
According to the notes of the sonorous gem.
Oh! majestic is the descendant of Tang;
Very admirable is his music.
The large bells and drums fill the ear;
The various dances are grandly performed.
We have admirable visitors,
Who are pleased and delighted.
From of old, before our time,
The former men set us the example; -
How to be mild and humble from morning to night,
And to be reverent in discharging the service.
May he regard our sacrifices in summer and autumn,
[Thus] offered by the descendant of Tang!

И барабаны, и бубны мы расставляем, как надо;
Громко, так громко в согласьи звучат барабаны.
Нашим прославленным предкам да будет отрада!

Правнук твой с музыкой ныне пришел к тебе, Тан;
Думы мои успокой, их исполнивши вдруг.
Пусть барабаны звучат далеко, далеко;
Чисто, так чисто гуаня разносится звук.
Стройная музыка в полном согласьи звучит,
С нею подвешенных цинов сливается звук;

Правнук Чэн-тана, ныне он сколь величав!
Каждый прекрасен, прекрасен той музыки звук.
Мы в барабаны и колокол бьем и гремим;
Танцы прекрасны — следом один за другим.
Ныне прекрасные гости собрались у нас:
Разве не радостно, разве не весело им?

Некогда раньше и с самых древнейших времен
Подал благие примеры нам прежний народ:
Был так приветлив и утром и вечером он,
Дело свершая, был ревностных полон забот.

Предок Чэн-тан, благосклонно на жертвы взгляни:
Правнуком Тана приносятся ныне они!
